Placement Testing

determine college readiness on this page.

Some students will need to complete placement testing with the Virginia Placement Test to determine their readiness for dual enrollment course work, apprenticeships, and certain selective admissions programs.

These are not admission tests. They evaluate your readiness. However, you don’t want to be placed in a course lower than your actual skill level – so it’s important you take testing seriously.

Placement tests are free, and you can take them on any TCC campus. Tests are currently administered by appointment only. Appointments must be made 48 hours in advance. Email testing@a3magazine.com or call 757-822-2194.

Planning your tests

Tests generally take between 3-4 hours. You may not start an exam 3 hours or less before the center closes. Make sure you bring a photo ID and your student ID number with you when you take the test!

We offer dedicated testing centers on each of our four campuses where you can take your placement tests.
